Extra heavy unidirectional vintage Art Deco Elgin American sterling silver cigarette case or business card case (also folded paper money or credit cards). Extremely handsome design on the front and a simple brushed satin finish back on this unusually heavy case. The inside of the case has a butler swirled finish and is unidirectional. The cross bars run both horizontally and vertically to hold either 2-3/4" (70mm) or 3-7/8" (100mm) cigarettes. Cross bars are hinged and in outstanding condition. Measures 4" x 3" and weighs a whopping 142 grams (92 DWT pennyweights, 4.9 ounces). Hallmarked and maker marked "Sterling Elgin American Made in USA" on both cross bars. In exceptional condition including the catch, looks like it was not carried very much- very handsome. Circa 1940. Elgin American Manufacturing Company- Elgin, Illinois. Began business in 1887, Became a division of Illinois Watch Case Company before 1943. m160E&C

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: any "dark" areas in the images are merely reflections. The case has an extremely reflective surface making it difficult to photograph. TRULY more spectacular in person and "in hand". Can also be used to hold a few business cards, or as a wallet for cash or credit cards like a money clip. The case will hold shorts, kings, hand rolled cheroots, marijuana joints, filter-less cigarettes. Also good to hold rolling papers. The perfect anniversary gift or wedding gifts for the groom and groomsmen. They also make fine birthday and graduation gifts. Great piece of collectible tobacciana!

70mm cigarettes were the original cigarette size and are typically 2 3/4 inches long. These were traditionally filter-less cigarettes and were the dominant size before the popular filtered cigarette started to dominate the market. This size is still very popular with the roll-your-own community, but are less popular from a commercial standpoint. Once the filter tipped cigarette came out in the late 1950's, these started to decline in popularity. By the mid to late 1960's the filter tip cigarette had started to dominate the market, but these were still very popular due to the large amount of people who were used to smoking this size cigarette. These are still widely available, but not very popular in the modern day.

100mm cigarettes are simply known as 100's and are typically 3 3/4 - 4 inches in length. These are the next size up from 84mm (king size) cigarettes and are longer in overall length. They have a longer filter than the 84mm cigarettes and can have slightly more tobacco depending on the manufacturer.

*Personal checks will be held 14 days to clear before shipping. We require a $35 fee for any check returned to us from the bank for insufficient funds.

Payment is due within 48 hours of purchase. Money orders and cashiers checks and personal checks due within 1 week of purchase. Items will be returned to stock after this time. Ohio residents must add 6.75% sales tax (or provide us with a current Ohio vendors license number held in your name).

Non U.S. Buyers:
We accept Paypal (VERIFIED Paypal accounts only) for purchases under $200. For all purchases over $200 we require either Western Union or *Bank Wire Transfer. Any fees are the buyers responsibility.

*Information for Bank Wire Transfer: please contact and we will supply on request with an active purchase order. There is an automatic $20 fee applied to all bank wire transfers.

We ship United States Postal Service (USPS) only. Domestic U.S. shipping rates are listed in each of our descriptions. We always combine shipping on multiples purchases, so please do not submit payment until you receive an order confirmation from us.

USPS may ask to review email correspondence between the buyer and seller to confirm details and verify the loss.
